due to the rapid proliferation and application of tele-communications in the last 25 years the focus has become fixated on a very specific interpretation of communication - in recent years especially this has narrowed even further thru the mass scaling of social media networks - a view that the most advanced, most relevant, most important form of communicating is thru these platforms due to their scale - what they have enabled in the way of connection is valid and unquestioned, but one of the side effects of this narrow aperture is a myopic view of what communication actually is at its foundation
it encompasses the exchange of information, input / output, dialogs, transfers between one and another in its totality and the scope is infinite - in everyday life the level of communication happening in a single human body is incalculable - between our various systems and the cells that compose us - between the plants we eat communicating with those systems and cells, the sunlight on our skin, the sensory input we receive, to the next level of application - exercise, yoga, movement, where our mind is in communication with the muscles and limbs to experience full mobility, flexibility, agility - all of this is communication
creatively, any vision that is produced can be sustained thru its ability to communicate - this very often is wordless and yet transmits a meaningful message that withstands the tests of time - the moment a creative vision is expressed it is already an expression of direct communication, between the creator of that vision and the source that the vision was drawn forth from - it holds its own atomic weight, regardless of how many other people encounter it - though a powerful communication can have the potential for large scale distribution and amplification - but at the core there must be something to communicate to begin with - and this is vital to maintaining a healthy holistic view of what communications actually are
off-grid media reflects this well, in that it is not connected to the consensus grid-work of social media platforms and sustains itself outside of those frequency bands - this in no way lessens its significance, impact or value - in fact it amplifies it, as having some references to an alternative approach alleviates the stress of the myopic way of viewing content and how it is shared
